Descriere

The archive of Valery Faminsky (1914-1993) discovered in Moscow is a unique find. From April 22 to May 24, 1945, photographs of the completely destroyed city, its population, and the everyday life of Russian troops were taken in Berlin. Taken without any kind of pathos or propaganda, these photographs describe with a humanistic view the longing for peace and the reality of war. The authenticity and also the closeness to the events that get under the skin let the viewer become a witness of these historical hours and days. Measured by the outstanding artistic quality of his photographs, Valery Faminsky is on a par with photographers such as Yevgeny Khaldey and Robert Capa. Now, for the first time in Germany, these images are available in a comprehensive, high-quality monograph.
